From July 7, 2025, AGERE expands biowaste collection to all households in the municipality of Braga. This initiative will enable the conversion of food scraps into compost and energy.
"Now nothing goes to waste!" is the slogan of the awareness campaign that accompanies this implementation, encouraging citizens to adopt this new routine of separating food waste from residual mixed waste, while highlighting both personal and community benefits.
The system involves separating food waste into specific bags and depositing them at the existing mixed waste collection points. These food waste bags are then identified by an optical sorting system and sent to Braval’s facilities for composting and energy recovery.
Prior to direct engagement with residents, informational materials will be distributed to mailboxes, and educational content will be shared through social media and local communication channels.
Community outreach will follow a proactive approach, focused on clarifying new routines and distributing the necessary equipment, including door-to-door visits and scheduled deliveries.
In this new phase, around 83,400 additional households will be included. With citizen participation, the aim is to divert tons of waste from landfills and redirect it for recovery and valorisation, contributing to the achievement of European waste management targets.
