As part of the 8th National Urban Cleaning Meeting (8ENLU), the Executive Director of AGERE and Vice-President of the Urban Cleaning Association highlighted the need to combine technological investment with awareness-raising and the active participation of every citizen in caring for public spaces.
AGERE took part in the 8th National Urban Cleaning Meeting (8ENLU), held in Guimarães under the theme “(RE)BUILDING THE FUTURE”, reaffirming its commitment to modernising services and engaging the community in caring for public spaces.
Taking part in the roundtable discussion “Investing in Urban Cleaning, Investing in the City”, Alexandra Roeger, Executive Director of AGERE and Vice-President of the Urban Cleaning Association, reinforced the municipal company’s core message: continuous investment in innovation and state-of-the-art equipment must go hand in hand with citizens’ awareness and sense of responsibility.
“We can have more efficient services, better equipment and invest increasingly in urban cleaning, but a truly clean city is also built through the participation of those who live in it. The challenge is to strengthen this shared responsibility by promoting more conscious behaviours and finding new ways to prevent and monitor practices that negatively affect the space we all share,” said Alexandra Roeger during her intervention.
AGERE has consistently focused its efforts on investing in sustainable fleets, improving working conditions for its teams and modernising its operations. The company believes that urban cleaning begins well before waste collection. Above all, it requires a change in mindset centred on three fundamental pillars: awareness, participation and enforcement.
Through the motto “Caring for Braga as Our Home”, the company continues to promote community outreach and environmental education initiatives that highlight the role of sector workers and bring the community closer to preserving shared public spaces.
The National Urban Cleaning Association is the first organisation in Portugal dedicated to these issues, with the mission of transforming the national Urban Cleaning sector, positioning it as a tool for the transition towards Smart Cities and as a driver of sustainable public policies.
