BRAGA TO GIVE NEW LIFE TO COFFEE CAPSULES

24, Oct 24 | Updates

AGERE and the Industrial and Commercial Coffee Association (AICC) signed a collaboration protocol this Wednesday to implement a collection and recycling service for used coffee capsules.

This agreement was signed on the same day that the AICC formalized an alliance with several coffee industry companies, launching this campaign: Recaps.

Under the slogan “Braga gives new life to your coffee capsules”, AGERE will promote the selective collection and recycling of this type of waste by providing specific containers at Parish Councils, where residents can drop off their used coffee capsules.

The initiative comes from the high recycling potential of coffee capsules, which are often disposed of with general waste. With this new collection system, the waste from the approximately 2 billion coffee capsules placed on the market every year can be properly recovered, allowing the materials such as aluminum, plastic, and coffee grounds to be recycled.

AGERE's commitment to sustainability involves finding practical solutions that encourage waste separation and proper management. By joining the Recaps campaign, we aim to engage the entire community of Braga in recycling coffee capsules, offering sustainable alternatives for handling this type of waste", stated Rui Sá Morais, Chairman of AGERE’s Board of Directors.

The capsules will be collected by AGERE’s services, which, in collaboration with AICC, will ensure the waste is sent to recycling centers, where it will be transformed into new products.

By the end of the year, the project for collecting and recycling used coffee capsules will be extended to schools in the Municipality of Braga.
