AGERE will reduce the paper weight used in water bills and accompanying information pages to make the production process more efficient and decrease resource consumption, without compromising the readability or quality finish of the documents.
By lowering the paper weight, it is estimated that this measure will save approximately 70,000 kg of paper annually, equivalent to preserving over 1,300 trees and reducing more than 37 million liters of water used in the production of this raw material. Additionally, energy consumption in printing operations will also decrease, contributing to a smaller ecological footprint.
This change, implemented in partnership with CTT – Correios de Portugal, is part of an ongoing effort to improve sustainability practices. It aligns with the international standards of ISO 14001 certification, which promotes responsible environmental management and respect for the planet and future generations.
The production of AGERE invoices, managed by CTT, uses continuous roll printing, eliminating the traditional cut-sheet method. This allows for reduced energy consumption and minimizes the ecological footprint of the process. Printing will continue to use liquid inks with nearly zero environmental impact, steering away from laser printing, which relies on more polluting toners that pose health risks.
The production and distribution processes are also aligned with carbon emission reduction efforts. Since these processes take place in the same facilities, there is no need for transportation between production and the start of mail distribution, further lowering the environmental impact.
AGERE and CTT reaffirm their active role in environmental preservation while ensuring the efficient delivery of invoices to their customers.
